About

Workday is a Pleasanton, California software company founded in 2005 by Aneel Bhusri and Dave Duffield. Its cloud platform runs human resources, payroll, financial management, spend management and planning on one data model for more than 11,500 organisations, including more than 65% of the Fortune 500, with over 75 million users under contract. Financial services is one of the industries it builds for: its Adaptive planning product models loan portfolios, deposits and assets to forecast bank balance sheets, income statements and cash flows down to branch or product level. Revenue reached US$9.55bn in the year to 31 January 2026, when Workday employed more than 21,000 people in 36 countries. Bhusri returned as chief executive in February 2026. Recent acquisitions have centred on AI: Paradox for conversational recruiting, Sana Labs for enterprise knowledge and learning, FlowiseAI for low-code agent building and Pipedream for agent integrations, with the purchase of ConductorOne for identity governance agreed in October 2026.

How they use AI

Workday builds AI agents into its HR and finance workflows, and more than 5,500 customers were using at least one Workday-built agent by July 2026. On the finance side, the Financial Audit Agent assembles audit evidence packages and became generally available in 2026, with agents for financial close, performance reviews and workforce planning announced for the year to January 2027. In planning, Adaptive Decision Intelligence lets finance and operations teams ask questions in natural language, model scenarios and act on the results, alongside predictive forecasts built from historical and third-party data such as economic and labour statistics. Workday Sana provides knowledge search and automation across HR, finance and IT systems, while HiredScore AI for Recruiting and Paradox apply AI to hiring. Agent Passport tests and verifies Workday-built and third-party agents before production and monitors them afterwards, and Workday holds ISO/IEC 42001 certification for AI management. Developers can build agents with Flowise Agent Builder and Developer Agent.
