Braintrust has released a command line interface, bt, and an MCP server for its AI evaluation platform, the company said on 3 April 2026.
The bt CLI is built for scriptable workflows: running evals, integrating with CI, querying logs with SQL and managing configuration as code. Coding agents such as Claude Code can call bt commands directly.
The Braintrust MCP server connects AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code to Braintrust data and documentation. Editors and agents can query and modify Braintrust data, with write operations using the user’s authenticated permissions and an option to require confirmation before changes.
Braintrust calls the CLI the stronger foundation for repeatable operations and says MCP suits narrower cases, such as when an agent needs to reason over data in a conversation.
For teams shipping AI products, the release puts evaluation into the same terminal and agent workflows they already use for code.
