About

AI or Not is an Alameda, California company founded in 2023 by Anatoly Kvitnitsky. It sells an API and web app that tell whether an image, video, audio clip or piece of text was generated or altered by AI. Fintech, fraud-prevention, identity, insurance and media teams use it to screen uploaded documents, claims evidence and user content for synthetic material before acting on it. In January 2025 it raised a US$5m seed round led by Foundation Capital.

How they use AI

AI or Not trains its own detection models on outputs from current generative tools and returns a likelihood score through its API. Models cover images, video, audio, text and face-swap deepfakes, and a May 2026 benchmark on deepfake X-rays extended the checks to medical images used in claims.
