OpenAI has published a company blog post disputing a lawsuit filed by Apple that alleges former Apple employees misused confidential information after joining OpenAI. OpenAI called the suit "careless, aggressive and oddly personal."

OpenAI said Apple originally claimed it contacted OpenAI in February and received no response, but claimed Apple's outside lawyers have since admitted the relevant email was sent to the wrong person after confusing two names. OpenAI further claimed Apple said it had spoken with OpenAI's General Counsel, Che Chang, a conversation OpenAI said Apple has since conceded never happened. OpenAI said it heard nothing further for five months before Apple filed suit.

On the specific allegations, OpenAI said Apple accuses former employee Chang Liu of accessing confidential Apple information after leaving the company. OpenAI claimed Apple's filing omits that Apple's own employees had asked Liu for help locating files, and said any lingering system access reflects Apple's own management of departing staff. OpenAI also pushed back on allegations against Tang Tan, a former Apple employee of more than 24 years, stating he has been instructed not to use confidential information from other companies.

OpenAI said Apple's request for a preliminary injunction relies on inaccurate claims and is unnecessary, stating it does not have or want Apple's trade secrets. The post includes iMessage screenshots and email correspondence that OpenAI says support its version of events.
