Shift Technology launched Shift Claims on 16 September 2025, describing an agentic-AI product that assesses and prioritises cases, guides claim handlers and automates tasks from first notice of loss through to closure. The company said the aim is faster processing, higher accuracy, lower claims leakage and handling cost, and a better experience for policyholders, while insurers retain process control.
The release positions Shift Claims as an AI layer over existing claims and core systems. It builds on generative AI that Shift said it integrated in 2024 — insurance-trained large language models for extraction, summarisation, classification and liability support — and adds tool use so agents can take task-specific actions. Four transformation areas named in the announcement are assessing claim complexity, classifying and assigning work, assisting handlers, and automating selected tasks through a straight-through-processing agent.
Eric Sibony, chief scientist and chief product officer, said most earlier technology approaches had failed to handle real-world claim complexity, and that agentic AI should raise automation where appropriate while advising handlers when a person needs to stay in the loop. AXA Switzerland is named as an early adopter; Markus Keller, COO and head of customer operations, said the insurer wanted higher automation with full information available when human intervention is required.
Shift cited early-adopter results of 3% lower claims losses, 30% faster handling, a 60% overall automation rate and greater than 99% accuracy in claims assessment — company-stated figures for early adopters collectively, not attributed solely to AXA Switzerland.
