Mistral has announced a strategic collaboration with HUMAIN to support the development of sovereign AI in Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East, covering infrastructure, model development and deployment.

The partnership, described as worth hundreds of millions of euros, will focus initially on cybersecurity and voice applications, alongside efforts to build frontier models with strong Arabic-language performance. Mistral said it will explore using HUMAIN's data centre infrastructure to meet growing local compute demand, while the two companies plan to develop a joint go-to-market strategy targeting regulated industries in Saudi Arabia.

The deal follows a string of recent moves by Mistral to expand access to local infrastructure, including an expanded compute partnership with Microsoft in Europe and the introduction of European Compute Units, a mechanism for pooling long-term enterprise commitments to fund regional capacity.

Mistral framed the collaboration around demand for sovereign AI, where data, models, infrastructure and operations remain under a customer's control rather than an external platform, an approach it said was particularly relevant to financial services, manufacturing, telecommunications, cybersecurity and the public sector, where compliance and operational autonomy are critical.
