About

Mistral AI was founded in April 2023 by Arthur Mensch, Guillaume Lample and Timothée Lacroix to make frontier AI accessible and customisable. Mensch is CEO, Lample is Chief Science Officer and Lacroix is CTO. ASML led its €1.7bn Series C in September 2025 at an €11.7bn post-money valuation, with DST Global, Andreessen Horowitz, Bpifrance, General Catalyst, Index Ventures, Lightspeed and NVIDIA. Its releases run from the 7B model in 2023 through Le Chat, Mistral Code (later Vibe), Mistral Compute, Mistral Studio in October 2025 and Forge in March 2026.

How they use AI

Mistral trains its own models: Mistral Large 4 was trained on 3,800 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs in Mistral's own European datacenters, supports more than 160 languages and has open weights promised. Developers reach the models through Mistral Studio, while Le Chat serves end users and Vibe serves coders. In October 2026 it also released Voxtral 3 for speech and the weights of Le Chonk, an open model for agentic coding and cybersecurity.
