Cognition announced raising over US$2 billion at a US$48 billion valuation to scale Devin AI software engineers, with Andreessen Horowitz and Accel leading the Series E, the company said on 8 September 2026.

Autonomous coding agents are posting unicorn-scale late rounds as enterprises buy seats for software delivery. Buyers still need eval coverage, IP boundaries and human escalation on their own repositories.

Cognition (also known as Cognition Labs) sells Devin; the directory slug remains cognition. The post cited run-rate revenue near US$900 million and named customers including NVIDIA, GE Aerospace, Citi, Mercedes-Benz and Modal.

Engineering leaders should demand controlled repository pilots with clear IP terms — before treating any Series E valuation as a completed AI engineer programme.
