Reality Defender has expanded its Series A to US$33 million to deepen deepfake and synthetic-media detection, according to a 22 October 2024 PR Newswire release. Illuminate Financial led the extension, with strategic participation from Booz Allen, IBM Ventures and Accenture among the named backers.

Chief executive commentary in the release said: "The Reality Defender team's proactive development has allowed our platform to not only keep pace with the many ills brought on by deepfakes and generative AI, but protect against novel and potential future threats as they appear" The company markets multi-modal detection across audio, video, images and text, positioning the stack for call centres, financial institutions and other buyers facing generative-media abuse.

Illuminate's involvement was framed as a push deeper into financial-sector distribution, from tier-one bank contact centres into other channels where synthetic media can move money or damage reputation. Exact ARR and customer counts were not the centrepiece of the extension announcement.

Buyers should treat the US$33 million figure and strategic logos as company-stated and ask for independent proof of detection rates on their own traffic and modalities.
