OpenAI announced its AI Economic Blueprint for Australia on June 30, 2025, developed in partnership with Mandala Partners to help Australia unlock artificial intelligence's economic and social potential.

The Blueprint provides what OpenAI describes as "a clear, actionable plan for how Australia can unlock the full economic and social potential of artificial intelligence" at a time when boosting productivity has emerged as a national priority for Australia. OpenAI states it has created "freely available tools currently being used by more than 500 million people around the world, with user growth doubling in Australia over the past year."

According to OpenAI, the company is "building AI that helps people and governments solve hard problems—like accelerating scientific discovery; improving healthcare, education, and government services; and boosting productivity." The Blueprint represents OpenAI's proposal for how Australia can maximise AI opportunities while ensuring responsible usage.

OpenAI positions AI as "a transformative general purpose technology—like electricity" that will change how people live, work, and interact. The company cites current applications including doctors using tools to organise patient information, scientists applying AI to physics and disease prevention, educators developing customised curriculum, and government workers using ChatGPT for research and translation.

The company emphasises that "national investment in AI infrastructure today will form the backbone of future economic growth, create jobs, boost productivity and usher in a new generation of entrepreneurship."

OpenAI identifies applications across healthcare, education, government services, agriculture, and scientific research, with tools already deployed by doctors, scientists, educators, farmers, and government workers for productivity enhancement and problem-solving initiatives.

OpenAI's Blueprint positions Australia at what the company calls "an inflection point" where national AI infrastructure investment could drive economic growth and job creation. The company advocates for bold, decisive action to maximise AI possibilities while ensuring responsible implementation, targeting productivity gains across multiple industry sectors.
