Harmoney has secured a strategic minority investment of €10 million from Smile Sail, the Ghent-based counterparty risk software vendor and the evergreen private equity fund said on 21 May 2026. Both parties published matching announcements the same day.
Harmoney said the capital supports the next phase of international growth as it expands orchestration across counterparty risk management. Smile Sail is an evergreen fund focused on European software and AI companies. Harmoney described three priorities for the money: deepening commitment to existing clients, scaling its international go-to-market organisation, and further investment in AI-driven product innovation for counterparty risk management.
The company said its modular platform helps financial institutions and regulated enterprises orchestrate onboarding, compliance and risk workflows across the client and third-party lifecycle, connecting customers, counterparties, compliance teams, third-party data providers and core systems. Harmoney said the platform supports KYC, AML, MiFID, PEP, UBO, DORA, ESG and third-party risk management for more than 70 financial institutions across seven countries. In both announcements it named Belfius, Baloise and Ayvens among customers.
Harmoney and Smile Sail pointed to the EU Anti-Money Laundering Regulation applying from 10 July 2027, the European Anti-Money Laundering Authority operational since July 2025, and DORA enforceable since January 2025. They argued compliance is shifting from periodic, siloed checks toward continuous, orchestrated counterparty risk management.
Co-founder and chief executive Thomas Van Maele said Harmoney was founded to take burden out of compliance and risk processes so clients can focus on trusted relationships with customers and counterparties. He said Smile Sail brings entrepreneurial DNA, sector expertise and a track record of scaling B2B software internationally. Smile Sail partner Ronald Kemmeren called Harmoney an emerging European market leader in counterparty risk management software and said its platform is mission-critical for a blue-chip customer base that onboards and monitors millions of counterparties each day.
