Google have announced public sharing functionality for NotebookLM, allowing users to share notebooks publicly with anyone using a single link. The feature addresses existing user behaviour, where NotebookLM users already share notebooks with classmates, coworkers, students and friends, making sharing and curation easier through public links.

Users can create public notebooks by selecting the "Share" button in the top-right corner and setting access to "Anyone with a link." The functionality supports various use cases including nonprofit project overviews, business product manuals, and class study guides.

Public notebook viewers cannot edit source content, but retain full interaction capabilities including asking questions and exploring generated content such as audio overviews, FAQs, and briefing documents. The feature maintains NotebookLM's core interactive functionality while expanding accessibility.

Tin-Yun Ho, Group Product Manager for NotebookLM, stated the team is "excited to see what the NotebookLM community creates" and emphasised that "public sharing makes NotebookLM an even more powerful tool for exploration, understanding and creation."

The public sharing feature enables organisations to distribute educational materials, product documentation, and collaborative content more efficiently. Businesses can leverage the functionality for customer-facing product manuals while educational institutions can share study materials across broader audiences without requiring individual access permissions.

Google's addition of public sharing capabilities positions NotebookLM as a more comprehensive collaboration platform, competing with traditional document sharing and educational tools. The feature maintains user engagement through interactive capabilities, while expanding NotebookLM's reach beyond closed user groups. This enhancement supports Google's broader strategy of making AI-powered tools more accessible for educational and business applications.
