Datadog announced Bits, a generative AI assistant grounded in customer observability data, the company said on 3 August 2023. The release frames Bits for incident investigation, recommendations and remediation assistance inside the Datadog platform.
Observability suites are adding copilots that summarise incidents and suggest next steps. The useful test is whether answers stay grounded in the customer’s metrics, traces and logs — and whether operators can audit what the assistant used.
Datadog already sits in many cloud estates as the monitoring system of record. Bits is the firm’s bid to keep investigation work inside that tenant rather than exporting context to a general chatbot.
SRE and platform teams should demand reproducible recommendations on recent incidents — and clear controls on write actions — before treating Bits as a default on-call companion.
