Carta has acquired Avantia and launched Carta Law, according to a 13 May 2026 Business Wire release. The London-founded firm had built Ava, an in-house AI agent platform for legal and compliance work aimed at private-capital and asset-manager clients, and will operate under the Carta Law brand following the deal.

Avantia had launched Ava in January 2025 and raised venture debt from HSBC Innovation Banking to fund the product and US and European expansion. Carta framed the acquisition as bringing AI-enabled fund formation, contracts and LP-transfer workflows closer to its existing equity-management and capital-formation tools.

Deal terms were not disclosed in the announcement. Carta Law's LinkedIn presence lists roughly 149 employees in the 51–200 band after the combination — a company-side headcount signal rather than a verified filing.

For private-market sponsors, the practical question is whether Ava's lawyer-validated automation survives the brand transition and sits cleanly inside Carta's compliance and conflicts controls.

Figures and customer claims in this piece are those stated by the company or acquirer in the cited materials.

AI-360 has not independently audited operating metrics named in the announcement.
