About
Carpe, known as Carpe Data until July 2026, builds AI products for property and casualty insurers. Its software reads online and third-party data to give claims and underwriting teams signals on injuries, fraud, severity and risk. More than 40 carriers run Carpe in production, including nine of the top 20 US P&C carriers, and customers include Farmers Insurance, Zurich, The Hanover and Vermont Mutual. Max Drucker and Geoff Andrews founded the company in 2016 in Santa Barbara, California, and it has engineering and operations in Lisbon. Thomas H. Lee Partners has been majority owner since April 2022.
How they use AI
Carpe runs two AI reasoning engines. The Claims Reasoning Engine powers the Carpe Claims suite, which monitors online and public data during a claim to flag injury activity, possible fraud and severity changes for adjusters. The Minerva Reasoning Engine, launched in August 2026, applies reasoning models to unstructured data so insurers can answer underwriting and risk questions about a business or person with cited evidence. Online Injury Alerts monitor open injury claims from first notice of loss and send adjusters prioritised alerts with reason codes when online activity contradicts a reported injury. Minerva responses come with reason codes and public-source evidence. Results reach carriers through Verisk ClaimSearch and Guidewire, or by API and SFTP.
