About
Bloomberg was founded in New York in 1981 and provides financial data, news, analytics and trading tools through the Bloomberg Terminal, which has served the capital markets for more than four decades. Bloomberg L.P. has about 26,000 employees in about 159 locations worldwide, and Michael Bloomberg controls the firm as majority shareholder. Vlad Kliatchko is chief executive. On 1 October 2026 Bloomberg completed its acquisition of Canoe Intelligence to extend its data into private markets, and on 15 October 2026 it made its ASKB conversational AI generally available on the Terminal.
How they use AI
Bloomberg has built and used AI in finance since 2009, across machine learning, natural language processing, information retrieval, time-series analysis, generative models and agentic architectures. ASKB, the Terminal's conversational AI interface, runs a network of AI agents in parallel over Bloomberg's data, news, research and analytics, built with several commercial and open-weight LLMs, and cites its sources. When an answer involves data analysis it returns the underlying Bloomberg Query Language (BQL) code for use in Excel or BQuant. Since general availability, clients can also query their own IB chats, Worksheets and files in Bloomberg Drive, and ASKB is being connected to PORT, RMS Enterprise, Bloomberg Second Measure data and Canoe's private markets data.
