# Meta releases SAM 3D for single-image 3D reconstruction

[Meta](https://about.fb.com/?ref=ai-360.online) has released SAM 3D, a pair of open-source models that reconstruct 3D objects and people from a single image, alongside its SAM 3 segmentation model, [Meta said on 19 November 2025](https://about.fb.com/news/2025/11/new-sam-models-detect-objects-create-3d-reconstructions/?ref=ai-360.online).

SAM 3D Objects reconstructs objects and scenes, while SAM 3D Body estimates human body shape and pose. [Meta](https://www.ai-360.online/meta/) said SAM 3D Objects significantly outperforms existing methods.

Meta worked with artists to build SAM 3D Artist Objects, an evaluation dataset of diverse images and objects for measuring progress in 3D reconstruction. For SAM 3D, it is sharing model checkpoints and inference code.

Meta is using SAM 3D for a new View in Room feature on Facebook Marketplace, which lets shoppers see how home decor items such as lamps or tables would look in their own space.

SAM 3 detects, segments and tracks objects in images and video from text prompts such as "red baseball cap". Both models can be tried on Meta's new Segment Anything Playground. Meta said SAM 3D could help fields such as robotics, science and sports medicine.
