# Databricks adds first-class Iceberg support to Delta Sharing

[Databricks](https://www.databricks.com/?ref=ai-360.online) has added first-class support for the Apache Iceberg format to Delta Sharing, its open protocol for sharing data across platforms, [Databricks said in a blog post on 23 January 2026](https://www.databricks.com/blog/announcing-first-class-support-iceberg-format-databricks-delta-sharing?ref=ai-360.online).

Data providers can now share data live from [Databricks](https://www.ai-360.online/databricks/) to any client that supports the Iceberg REST Catalog API. Recipients on platforms such as [Snowflake](https://www.ai-360.online/snowflake/), Trino, Flink and Spark can read a shared Delta table as a native Iceberg table.

Databricks also launched a private preview that lets providers use Delta Sharing to share Iceberg tables managed by catalogs outside Databricks, including AWS Glue, Hive Metastore and Snowflake Horizon.

Governance stays in Unity Catalog, which Databricks presents as a single place to manage sharing of Delta or Iceberg tables, whether managed or foreign.

The company said Delta Sharing usage has grown more than 300% year on year for two consecutive years, and that data providers including [SAP](https://www.ai-360.online/sap/), Walmart, [Atlassian](https://www.ai-360.online/atlassian/) and [LSEG](https://www.ai-360.online/lseg/) use it.
