# CommBank five-year AWS deal ships CommBiz GenAI messaging on Bedrock in six weeks

Commonwealth Bank of Australia and [Amazon Web Services](https://aws.amazon.com/?ref=ai-360.online) said CommBank entered a five-year strategic collaboration with AWS as preferred cloud provider, [in a joint release dated 4 February 2025](https://press.aboutamazon.com/aws/2025/2/commbank-and-aws-expand-collaboration-to-deliver-global-best-cloud-and-ai-capabilities-enabling-idea-to-production-in-six-weeks?ref=ai-360.online).

A named product outcome was the CommBiz GenAI-powered messaging service for tens of thousands of Business Banking customers — idea to production in six weeks using CommBank's DevOps Hosting platform, Group Generative.AI Platform and Guardrails Service. The tech stack for CommBiz messaging includes Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases, Claude 3 and Cohere LLMs, and Amazon OpenSearch as a vector database, extracting information from more than 80 CommBiz user guides and FAQs for natural-language answers supporting payments and transactions. An AI Factory launched in September 2024 on Amazon EC2 P5 instances supports safe testing and fine-tuning; the DevOps Hosting Platform on AWS integrates native Bedrock and Bedrock Knowledge Bases with RAG guardrails.

Scale signals cited include AI models said to have doubled to over 2,000 in 2024, with core apps Netbank, CommSec and MUREX already on AWS. Rodrigo Castillo, chief technology officer at CommBank, said: "AI is enabling new experiences for customers delivered faster than before, providing a frictionless experience to build and release new AI-powered products and features for our customers in a safe, responsible way."
