The recent Global AI Summit in Seoul marked a stop in the ongoing quest to ensure the responsible development and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The event saw the convergence of sixteen leading AI companies, alongside representatives from the G7, EU, Singapore, Australia, and South Korea. This gathering of minds showcased the growing recognition of the need for collaboration and consensus in shaping the future of AI.

Sixteen companies, including Google, Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI, reached an agreement to develop AI technologies safely, publish safety frameworks for measuring risks, avoid models with unmitigatable risks, and ensure governance and transparency.

Voluntary commitments alone may not suffice. Regulation will need to accompany these efforts to ensure a comprehensive approach to AI safety. The shift in discussions from long-term doomsday scenarios to more practical concerns, such as the use of AI in medicine and finance, highlights the growing maturity of the conversation surrounding AI regulation.

The presence of influential figures such as Elon Musk, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, and Samsung Electronics' Chairman Jay Y. Lee underscores the gravity of the summit and the potential impact of the decisions made therein. The people in this Seoul room will change the world. Simple.

The journey towards responsible AI development is far from over. The absence of China from the Tuesday session, despite its co-signing of the "Bletchley Agreement" on collectively managing AI risks during the first November meeting, highlights the ongoing challenges in achieving global consensus.

As we move forward, it is imperative that the momentum generated by the Global AI Summit is maintained. The commitments made by the AI companies must be followed through with concrete actions, and governments must work to develop and implement effective regulatory frameworks.
